INTEREST GROUPS

Adventures in Daytime Dining

This group meets the second Friday of the month at 11:30. We meet at various restaurants around town (and slightly beyond) for lunch. This is a great time to catch up on everyone's news and just have a nice chat. Call Jenny to reserve a spot or suggest a local restaurant.

Book Group

The Book Group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Waterfront Place Hotel.  Anyone interested in reading a wide variety of books and discussing them with other people is welcome to join. No reservations are necessary.  Because we use the restaurant's facilities for no charge, you are expected to buy lunch.

Bridge Club
Casual Gourmet

The Casual Gourmet Group is an informal gathering of Newcomer members and their spouses. Single members are also welcome to join. This is a special interest group whose focus is on preparing and eating gourmet foods. The group divides into groups of four (4) couples each month. The committee will provide a menu, and the hostess will prepare the main entrée with the other couples assigned to appetizers, soup, salad, veggies, or dessert. Each couple may bring their own wine. Costs will be evenly divided among the participants. We will have a December holiday gathering as well as the “graduation” in May for all the couples to be in one household.

Chicks at the Flicks

We meet the third Friday of the month about 11:30 a.m.  We have lunch and then go on to a movie.  Members are welcome to join us for just lunch or just the movie.

Not Just Pins and Needles

The focus of this group is to inspire each other to finish our individual projects while enjoying the social benefits of a group.  Some of the crafts represented at each gathering include: cross-stitching, knitting, crocheting, traditional rug hooking and quilting.  If you already have a project, or would like to start something new, come join us from 10 a.m. until Noon usually on the 3rd Thursday of each month.  Location changes monthly. Refreshments provided by hostess.  Call Colleen for details.

Spa Day

Spa Day is an Interest Group that meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at a local spa.  Come meet your friends and be pampered.  You'll be offered a complimentary glass of wine, also. Now, what could be better than that?  We hope to see you on the 4th Tuesday between 2 and 8 p.m.

Bowling

This group gets together on either a Saturday or Sunday evening around 6:30 for an occasional get-together for a fun, non-competitive evening of bowling.  We meet either at the Sycamore Lanes in Westover or Suburban Lanes on Chestnut Ridge Rd. Bring your spouse, a friend or come alone!

Bunko

Bunko is a fun and easy dice game for twelve players.  It requires no skill or past experience. We'll meet monthly in each other's homes.  Everyone will take a turn hosting.   We will be meeting the last Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m.  Snacks will be served and then some of us may decide to go out for lunch afterwards.

Wine Tasting

As Shakespeare penned, "Good wine is a good familiar creature if it be well used." "From wine what sudden friendship springs!" For those Newcomers interested in expanding your knowledge and appreciation of the different wines of the world, how they look, smell, taste, what you like and don't like, we welcome you, with or without a spouse, to join this group. We will meet the 4th Saturdays of most months at 7:30 p.m.  At the end of the evening, the cost of wine will be evenly divided among those present. Each guest will bring a nibble to help cleanse the pallet.  If you enjoy drinking wine with good friends, than this is the group for you.

Golf

We play 9 holes every Thursday morning from April through October.  The courses we play vary from week to week. We are a very casual group of golfers.  Some of us keep score and others do not.  We just enjoy to be out golfing and enjoying each other's company.
There is no obligation to play every week.  You can play whenever it works in your schedule.

Auction
Our annual Newcomers Auction is anticipated for October 2011.  Anita Stanley, our president, is appointing members (Kyle Houghton, chair, Sally Kirkpatrick, Cheryl Perrotta, Anita Stanley, Pam Hodge, Kim O'Donnell, Kelly Firchow, Karen Smittle, Debbie Hackney, Donna Biess & Judy Kierig)  to serve on the auction committee, but we would love to have more.

If you have ideas, or would like to help with the planning and executing of our auction this year, this is your opportunity to get involved.  We are a fun group where everyone has an important job to do.  This is our only means to raise funds to run our club for the community.  The more members who get involved, the less work we all have to do.  It is also the best way to meet more people.  Just send an email to the club, or contact Anita.
What's Cooking?
This group meets in members' homes.  The hostess chooses a dish or small meal that she would like to share with us.  We all get in there and cook it together, learning new recipes and sharing experiences.  Then we eat what we cooked!  Yum!  This is a new group that is now forming.  All ideas are welcome!  The date for this group varies each month.  The hostess chooses a date that works best for her.  All levels of cooking experience welcome!
Tennis
During nice weather, we meet every Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Sally Kirkpatrick’s home in Foxwood (one court). If there are more than four participants, we can go to Marilla Park courts. A reservation is required.
Health and Wellness

This group is structered to meet the needs of the participants.  Many health related questions arise and this could be a place to seek out answers.  We will meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 11 am.  Its up to us to be well in Morgantown!

Evening Activities

We would like to have your input, let us know what interests you!

Mahjong
The Morgantown Community Newcomers Club is proud to announce the start of a new Interest Group...Mahjong!!  Whether you are curious about the game and want to get more information or you are a seasoned player and are eager to meet on a regular basis to play, please consider joining us.   We will be meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of each month beginning in May at 11:30 a.m. including the summer.

Special Activities

We plan several special events to be held during the year for the members, and occasionally guests and spouses.  Recent events include a pontoon boat ride on Cheat Lake; a wine social, featuring wines from the Forks of the Cheat Winery; a theater performance and a Karaoke party.  The schedule is posted in our newsletter.
